Show Review: 88 BoaDrum

I recently had the opportunity to experience true aural bliss. 88 BoaDrum was fucking stellar! For those who know were there. On 8.8.08 at 8:08pm 88 full drum kits snaked around Gang Gang Dance and tore it up with a new 88-minute composition that was executed beautifully. This year the event was held on the Williamsburg waterfront in Brooklyn while on the left side the Boredoms who hosted last years 77 BoaDrum here in NYC were doing their thing in the La Brea Tar Pits in LA. When I first heard about it I thought it was going to be a mess or just mindless drones beating on drums but no, it was a wonderfully orchestrated performance.

This was a free show but tickets needed to be procured prior to the day of the event. Though they were screen-printing shirts for ticket holders on site which was a nice touch however I was press and didn’t have a ticket so no shirt for me…bastards! The show, sponsored by Nike and you’d think they could shell out a few more for the industry folk, no big deal I just had to talk smack about something. Especially cause now I see hipsters all over Billyburg rocking those things. Nonetheless it was a great experience and there is no doubt that this will continue to be a tradition for years to come.
