Art: Os Gemeos NYC Mural

Written by SMKjr Tuesday, 07 July 2009 17:06

Os Gemeos NYC Mural
Os Gemeos is currently painting a mural in NYC on Bowery and Houston.  For the past several months this spot featured Keith Haring's tribute piece but it is time to move on and get some fresh work up and that is exactly what is happening.  The Brazilian duo will surely put an excellent piece together.  Check the progress thus far.  The mural is supported by Deith Projects.

Show: Gaia & Imminent Disaster

Written by SMKjr Monday, 29 June 2009 18:05

Gaia

Ad Hoc (Brooklyn, NY) has another solid showing happening right now.  Gaia & Imminent Disaster, both famous for their work in the street, have brought the fun indoors.  If you are in the Brooklyn area Gaia recently throw up a huge piece that is visible from the Williamsburg Bridge. Get some exercise and walk across the bridge; you won't be disappointed and you may live longer.

Review: Phish

Written by Mikey Maker Wednesday, 17 June 2009 18:33

Phish

At the end of the day, what really matters to me is that they’re back.  After a five-year hiatus, there are most definitely going to be some kinks to work out, nonetheless they’re back on the road. Having seen a decent chunk of the early summer tour, I think they’re moving in the right direction and I’m excited for my west coast adventure in August.  Overall, I’ve enjoyed my experience and I don’t want to dwell on the negatives, but there were a few things that stood out during the four shows I attended.

Review: Pelican

Written by AAP Wednesday, 17 June 2009 18:14

Drenched in heavy red light, Pelican played a killer set for a full house at the Paradise on Friday.  To fully appreciate the type of sound this four-piece produces, it would be helpful to picture yourself floating above alien terrain with all signs pointing toward trouble.  Giant, swirling textures of dark and lonesome melody hold you in their grasp, while a persistent percussive force drives you into oblivion.  I don't think anybody even noticed that no one was singing, this wordless sermon summoned a deep blend of thoughts and emotions on its own.  Even when things were calm they were terrifying, and I liked it.  To be honest though, I might have to stare at pictures of rainbows and unicorns for while to balance out.  AAP
