Review: Citizen Cope
Written by AAP Thursday, 25 March 2010 18:04
Cope came out acoustic. From word one, the crowd was right there singing "Salvation" like a blessing was being passed out. With calm composure and steady voice Cope delivered a bitter-sweet, two-song serenade to an anxious but patient audience. His message is one of struggle as his moniker might suggest, but when you see him live, you know he feels it. I saw agony on his face, and in his soul I could sense a serious battle between optimism for the future and a historical reality-check. It seems with every word he is contemplating duality and the contradictions of his world around him. The first three song hooks were as follows: "put the gun down," "just fade away," and "between a bullet and a target." For me, this kind of depression only works when the band jumps in and give the whole set of emotions a big kick. They jammed hard as the night progressed and overall I thought it was a decent show. In the future I would be more inclined to see them in a smokey bar in Tennessee or something like that.

Pierced Arrows

We've all heard the saying "they don't make 'em like they used to" well these cats break the mold. Pierced Arrows is Fred Cole's latest project and the group which consists of his wife Toody and drummer Andrew Loomis, have been picked up by Vice Records. This video is of them playing "Let It Rain" in the backyard of their home in Oregon. Its music like this that comes around every once in awhile that reminds me why I do this.
