Review: Starscape 2010

Starscape is an electronic music festival that has been going strong for 12 years now. Ultraworld throws the party and they always bring the noise with a proper line up. The event takes place at Fort Armistead Park, which is at the mouth of the Patapsco River in Baltimore, MD. Last Saturday in Baltimore it was a little thick with humidity and thousands of freaks all raving in a park tends to heat things up a bit more. With six stages to choose from you’re bound to find some decent beats going throughout the day. The main stage acts I attended were The New Deal followed by Lotus and then Pretty Lights. The New Deal is classic jamtronica at this point and they always keep you moving. Lotus put on the best performance of the night and definitely rocked it with a range of sound. Their electro funk shit was what got me going, these dudes have significantly improved over the years and will only get better. Continuing on the main stage was Pretty Lights who have blown up over the past year and we’re only going to see more of them. The Colorado duo bangs it out jamming up electro beats with lots of hip hop undertones and influence. Closing the main stage was none other than The Disco Biscuits, who always kind of annoy me but I always have fun at their shows.

The roster of Artists performing there was pretty silly. Noteworthy acts were some heavy hitters in the Drum and Bass scene shit like Dieselboy, Reid Speed, Subfocus, AK1200 and many more. Craze and Klever killed it however the rapper YelaWolf I wasn’t feelin’ so we took a stroll to see RUSKO who’s definitely doing his thing this year on the Dub Step tip. Unfortunately I feel like Dub Step is almost commercial at this point and that’s just a shame. Hot Pink Delorean was a lot of fun too, definitely peep them for a good dance party. I’d also like to mention Redshift who is one of the hardest working DJs in the Northeastern DnB scene.

This is a really cool venue to see a show and it’s all about the sun rising over the bridge by the docks in the morning. There’s a live art area and the VIP area is actually pretty dope. This party is official as long as you can deal with all the damn raving lunatics!
