Les Claypool @ BK Bowl

Most of you know who Les Claypool is and understand how the freak steadily rips the bass on many different levels, with a barrage of styles. Blessing Brooklyn Bowl with his presence last week, he managed to impress once again. Les has been touring for years and his projects are always filled with a mélange of talent. From Primus to his Frog Brigade, Oysterhead, Holy Mackerel, Bucket of Bernie Brains and more, this new line up featured a cellist I didn’t know with drummer Paulo Baldi accompanied by Mike Dillon on percussion and vibraphone.
The show got off to an interesting start while mid jam he stops to give some dude a serious hard time. Dubbing the man “Mr. Bald-Headed Guy” he ripped on him for a minute because he was “ruining the evening of the women around him” by dancing like a jerk. It was a little much even for Les…just slappa da bass mon! The show went on and his sure fire delivery was nothing short of amazing. At one point he even came out wearing his monkey mask and slammed on his Whamola, which is a one string bass he made with a whammy bar. Les is a musical mastermind and whether his taste in music is your cup of tea or not he is still quite the spectacle and a definite experience.
